Once upon a time Hannah Nunn dreamed of having a shop front of her own with a workshop attached. At the time she was working in a shared studio space and selling her paper cut lamps to galleries up and down the country. On her travels to other studios and trade fairs she would always be inspired by other designer/makers who were creating lights and thought it would be amazing to bring them all together in one glowing space and create a specialist craft lighting outlet.
She kept a sketchbook of ideas for a time, gathering the courage to bring her dream to life until a beautiful shop, moments from her front door in Hebden Bridge became available and Hannah jumped at the opportunity. In September 2005 Radiance was born.
After five happy years building up a friendly customer base, getting some great press including features in Homes & Antiques, The Times and the Guardian Gift Guide Radiance was doing well but it was also bursting at the seams. Larger premises became available and in 2010 Radiance moved to it's current location - the downstairs floor of a beautiful Victorian town house. It's fireplaces, alcoves and bay window create a homely feel and lend themselves so well to all the products we love.
In 2013, Hannah longed to spread her creative wings and launch a wallpaper collection so she moved her studio out of the shop to a much larger premises and expanded the shop into the space left behind. Her wallpaper collection grew and flourished and she realised it was time to find someone else to run the shop.
Her daughter Ffion, after graduating from uni and spending time working in the shop discovered that she loved being there and with her great eye for design, a passion for beautiful, sustainable products and her organisational flair (she even loves making spreadsheets!?) she realised she was the one! Hannah was delighted to be keeping it in the family.
Just when we were celebrating this decision, the 2015 boxing day floods hit and devastated our little shop, wiping out most of our stock and all our fittings and leaving thick mud in it's wake. But with so much help from friends and locals and a brilliantly supportive landlord and landlady we managed to stay positive and saw it as a new beginning. Six months later the shop is all shiny and new, better than it was before and Ffion gets to start afresh with a new look shop. This is next generation Radiance and we are all excited.
